Introduction
Not all assistive technology needs to be complicated or expensive. Learn about low-tech tools that can be used with students at home or in the classroom through this online presentation. In this online course/workshop, the participant will learn what is assistive technology, what are LoTTIE Kits, and what are the numerous low and mid tech tools that are available to help students with special needs be as independent as possible.
After completing this online workshop, the participant will have acquired some of the skills needed to support the integration of assistive technology devices and services into the educational plan of students with special needs.
Specific objectives are:
- Define assistive technology and related terms.
- Identify, describe, and discuss the use of low tech assistive technologies.
- Identify resources available in the area of assistive technology devices and services.
- Demonstrate how the use of specific low technology tools can reinforce instruction and provide universal access to the general curriculum.
In order to receive in-service credit, you will need to:
- Read all the topics, subtopics, and activity content (2 pts)
- Implement the use of one or more of the low - mid tech tools with one or several ESE students
- Document the implementation using the follow-up form, which can be downloaded in Topic
9 / Follow-Up for In-service Credit, or by completed the follow-up reflection
exercise on the ePDC system. (1 pt)
Follow-Up/Reflection Exercise:

follow-up reflection exercise. It is not necessary to download the follow-up
form from the website. Do not mail in a written response. Use the ePDC
